Singham Again is a Arjun Kapoor’s film
After the end of every film there is a question you all ask yourselves - was it good? or was it bad? For me, when I was asked the question for Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, there was no answer! The film doesn’t have a story beyond what is shown in the trailer, which was quite obvious from the word go. While hero entry is mediocre, villain - Arjun Kapoor - steals the show every time he appears on the screen. I think he should keep exploring the villain roles, suits him quite well.
Deepika Padukone was the weakest link for me. She had to play Lady Singham, but every time she’d say a dialogue, she would remind me of Minamma from Chennai Express, which also was a Rohit Shetty film BTW. For some reason, she had most idiotic expressions to give. Kareena Kapoor Khan looked beautiful, and that was the most she did. Her face was expressionless, making her otherwise amazing screen presence vanish in the thin air. In simpler words, she had screen time but not screen presence.
Somehow both the actresses have forgotten to act - an opinion which is completely my observation. There’s a template of dialogue delivery and expressions they’ve been playing on repeat, and expecting us to have a fun time at the theatres. I mean, too much to expect from audiences?
I really loved Tiger Shroff’s fight sequence. He seemed such a perfect fit. But why Shetty wanted him to showcase a comic side by the end in a scene with Akshay Kumar, no idea. Ranveer’s high energy didn’t fail to make a mark. His comic timing was bang on. He brought joy in the otherwise dull storyline. Akshay Kumar didn’t have much to do. What’s funny? Ajay Devgn hardly fights, he leaves everything to his bhakts (the rest of the cast), but the film ends on a good note with Singham joining hands with Chulbul Pandey aka Salman Khan, which is a mix I am eager to witness. All in all, it is a survivable film that wanted to embrace the festive season, and to an extent it succeeded too, but I expected a little more.
