Should people feel offended by Malla Reddy’s comment on Bollywood at Animal event?
Malla Reddy, Minister of Labour and Employment of Telangana, has passed a comment that has riled up Bollywood lovers. At the ‘Animal’ pre-release event in Hyderabad, Malla Reddy said, “Agle paanch saal mai, Bollywood and Hollywood, pura ruling karega humara Telugu industry…Humara Telugu people ‘smart smart smart’ log hai.”
An X user condemned the comment and wrote, “Filmmakers should avoid calling immature Politicians to Audio or pre-release events...#MallaReddy comments are not acceptable at all...Trolling between actors is ok...But this North vs South debate is very dangerous and not at all healthy.” Another tweet read, “Hindi audience loves South actors and their movies without any discrimination. But here, the Telugu leader mocked the Bollywood and Hindi audience. We should show the true aukat of these people.”
However, should Bollywood lovers be offended by the comment made? While I can’t comment on Hollywood, if we look at some of the biggest hits of the last two or three years, most of them have come from the South industry. This year’s biggest hit ‘Jawan’, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was directed by Atlee, a Tamil director. And ‘Animal’ itself is a much-awaited Bollywood film directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. So, expecting Hyderabad to become a hub even for Bollywood isn't wrong.
However, does that mean Bollywood isn’t doing good? Absolutely no. Bollywood has produced some fine content this year (and even before), ’The Railway Men’ being a recent example. Also, Bollywood being one of the biggest entertainment industries in the country, it will be tough to take it down. It is an industry, which is celebrated across the globe. Thankfully, under the ‘pan-India’ umbrella, it has become easier for all the film industries to come together to entertain fans across the globe. So, while Malla Reddy's comment is being discussed and criticised, I don't think it matters much and shouldn't be given that much attention.
And fans, take a chill pill! See who should be given importance and whose comments should be faded out.
